Sleep deprivation is a very big problem in schools. Some even call it an epidemic. This problem is usually blamed on early start times. Students believe that the first bell should be moved back so they can get some more sleep. However, this may not be the only reason. Most of these students stay up late doing homework. This is not because they have too much, but because they procrastinate. If students don’t procrastinate, they will finish their work faster, which leaves them with more time to sleep. It would also leave people with fewer after-school hours which would have a bad impact on younger kids and athletics. School start times should not be moved back because sleep deprivation is not because of start times and later start times would mean less after school hours, which is bad. …show more content…

If students do their homework earlier and don’t procrastinate, then they will have much more time to sleep. The text “The Impact of Later School Start Times'' says “The average time the students go to sleep is about the same, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.” These teenagers are going to bed very late and need a lot more sleep than they are getting.
