Family in Hamlet and Grendel

Throughout life, many people have difficult times with their families. The way someone is brought up, normally determines who they grow into, or are as a person. There are many examples of this throughout Hamlet and Beowulf. The character Hamlet, in the novel Hamlet is influenced by the decisions of his family, which basically consumes his whole life. Grendel from Beowulf, is influenced by his mother who he desperately wants to get away from and escape.

In Hamlet, Hamlet is consumed by the betrayal of his family. He focuses his whole life on avenging his Father’s death. Hamlet’s life was also surrounded in riches, because he was born into a noble family. In life, they are the “lucky” ones, who inherit riches, but it is not all it is cracked up to be. They both decided to take those circumstances and make them corrupt them. They did not decide to make the best of them, by learning from them. I plan to make the best out of my circumstances because instead of letting them corrupt me, I can learn from them. For instance, because someone in my family didn’t make the best decisions, I can learn to not make those decisions when I get older. I can also move on from it, because I have learned that focusing on it my whole life and trying to correct it, will only make things worse. Also Grendel’s decision to let his circumstances, growing up as a child, influence him in a negative way helps me to understand that some members in your family, help you make decisions to be the better
