Growing up in a small town, you would assume there would be a lack of support but as a community member I see abundance and potential for even more support. Community organizations are crucial in a small town like Prairie Farm. Even in our small town of 500 we have the Lions Club, the American Legion, community members are apart of the VFW and we also have the Food Pantry. Organizations such as the food pantry support community members when they need help. The food pantry is always open to more donations, additional support, or partnering with our school clubs and chapters. Throughout the year we hear that our local organizations are lacking basic supplies they usually can give out to people. I am looking forward to discussing a plan to better our community and help out the local food pantry.
Being apart of many extracurricular activities, such as Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, FCCLA and National Honor Society, I will able to ask my fellow members of those organizations to participate in volunteering with our community organizations. Among these numbers a majority of those in need are children. As I sit in on the school board meetings as a student representative, I know that about ½ of the kids that attend Prairie Farm schools are on the free or reduced lunch program. Knowing this, our school implemented a program where if a family, or student, wants the school will send them home with a backpack full of food that fulfill the food groups, such as bread, and canned veggies and fruit. By hosting extracurricular food drives, I hope the students that are lucky enough to not worry about where their dinner is going to come from feel a sense of community pride by bringing in food or by helping stock
