Free Speech on College Campuses Free speech is a freedom granted under several constitutions in the world, including the American constitution. The idea of free speech is one that is placed in the law to avoid situations where the ruling government or institution is not able to curtail the freedom of those being ruled. The idea is one that serves to whistle blow on any wrong that may be done by a government or an institution. This idea of free speech extends to universities and colleges, bringing into perspective the idea of free speech onto our campuses. This begs the question of whether we are supposed to allow speakers because only a minority percentage believes in their ideas. Such questions may be answered following the belief of the students and the academic staff since my view of the subject may be subject to my school of thought. Moreover, answering that question may bring more questions than answers. The majority of the students may argue that people have the right to speak their mind while others may be of the opinion that free speech ought to have limitations if it contradicts the opinion of the majority. The rationale is that we live in a democratic state where the voice of the majority ought to be respected. Campus students ought to be trained on entertaining dissenting opinions and appreciate that not everyone can have the same way of thinking. However, many still believe that such are not stereotypes but absolute facts. This again, is subject to the school of thought one ascribes.
