How were British victories important to the American Revolution? The American Revolution was the first battle of the United States against Britain. It occurred from many events such as The Boston Tea Party. When Americans were upset and were angered by King George III decisions, they protested violently in Massachusetts. Three months after the protest, the governor of Massachusetts, John Hancock proposed that the colonies should break free from Britain and the king (Fradin). On April 14, 1775, General Thomas Gage, a royal governor, received secret orders from British leaders to attack Massachusetts rebels. He sent out 700 men on the night of April 18. The men were to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington and then destroy American …show more content…

The next day on Wednesday on April 29, 1775, about 5:20 am British soldiers an army of the world’s strongest nation and Lexington militiamen an army of farmers and untrained soldiers, fired on each other. The battle lasted only ten minutes. After two months on Saturday, June 17, 1775, Britain took their 3rd victory in one of the main battles of the American Revolution, the Battle of Bunker Hill. In addition, one of the last battles of the American Revolution was the Battle of Charleston or The Siege of Charleston that was three years before the end of the American Revolution on Wednesday, March 29, 1780. The American Revolution lasted for seven years. Over 25,000 American soldiers fought for freedom against 24,000 British soldiers in the thirteen colonies. Nations around the world helped the American colonies to get freedom and also helped British to keep control of the thirteen colonies. The battle was fought on April 19, 1775, in the towns of Lexington, Boston (Battle of Lexington and Concord). The men of Lexington had been waiting for more than four hours for the redcoats. Within minutes about seventy-seven Lexington Green (Fradin. Against were the world’s strongest nation, Britain and it’s army of about 273 redcoats outnumbering American colonists. Neither fired unless fired upon, suddenly a shot was fired from which side is unknown this show was known to be “the shot heard around the world”. Shots were then exchanged from both sides resulting in the deaths and wounding of both sides, the American and British troops. The Battle of Lexington lasted for only ten minutes and ended with the retreat of the American colonists. Even Though the British won the first battle of the American Revolution, they suffered great loss. There were over seventy-three killed soldiers, over twenty captured, and over fifty wounded. When King George III heard the terrible lost for Britain, even after winning the war, he changed the General to General Francis Smith. After the battle of Lexington, the British soldiers meet up and head to Concord, five miles to the west to seize arms and capture any rebels (Fradin).
