Did the French and Indian War Cause the Revolution? All wars cause effects on the world which must be accepted, whether they are virtuous or wicked. Some effects can change the social world and the economy. The United States, while under British rule, clashed with the French while the rest of the world prospered. The colonies forced the French out of North America, and in return the British devastated their lives. The devastation created distrust and frequent uprisings between the colonists and the British, thus inspiring the creation of the United States from under another country’s shadow. The British would eventually win over the French and ultimately take their land and displace the Indians who helped the French. As most have discerned, all wars have a cost. Whether it is money or lives, someone must pay. The French and Indian War caused a spike in British debt, from seventy-five million to almost one-hundred and thirty three million pounds. The British crown blamed this on the colonists, since the colonists were over in the Americas. They set up the Proclamation of 1763 which prohibited the westward movement of colonists past the Appalachian Mountains. Due to the war being started over western expansion, the colonies were not happy to be blocked from their opportunities. The colonists did not like this because the colonies were becoming crowded. New laws were established in order for the colonies to pay off the war debt that had accumulated throughout the war. The unrest would soon follow since the colonists truly had no say in parliament over the taxes and on the proclamation. Britain categorically did not care what the colonists were saying, so the colonists were enraged and had to find the only people who could take all their anger and be unable to do anything about it. With this, Britain decided to send over the fondly looked at Sugar and Stamp Acts which put taxes on official documents and their stamps that are used every day, as well as change the price of sugar which would decrease the amount of smuggling operations that help retain the money with the people. The British used parliament to run the government and make all of the choices that correspond with the colonies. The parliament consisted of a series of aristocratic men. It was used to decide important decisions and affirm doctrines and royal decrees. No colonists could actually join because they are subordinate to the crown. The colonists wanted some say in the decisions that were made.
