The United States has gone through many historical events that have allowed our country to become a world power. Many of these events had to do with the industrial side of the United States. Some more include wars like the Cold War, Korean War, and others. Americans today have slowly forgotten how these events have shaped our country into becoming a world power. These events have shaped us to where we are now and it has brought many people to our country and has allowed for us to expand and grow. It has also allowed us to become one of the greatest world powers. This is a major objective because it has allowed us to gain knowledge of others and has helped us become a stronger country. Britain was sending economic and military support to Greece and Turkey to prevent a communist takeover because of the war GB could no longer afford to do so. March 1947 Pres. Truman asked congress for $400 million in economic & military aid for Greece and Turkey (Abel). He then created the Truman Doctrine which declared that “it must be the policy of the US to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressure” (Roark, et al.). The Marshall Plan was also created in June 1947. The Secretary of State George Marshall proposed that the US provided aid to all European nations that needed it. He stated that this move was directed “not against any country or doctrine but against hunger, poverty, desperation and chaos.” Then for the next 4 years, 16 countries received some $13 billion in aid and by 1952, Western Europe was flourishing, and the communist party had lost much of its appeal to voters
