My cousin experienced a very hard dilemma for a girl her age while going to school, she had a language barrier. When she came to America she was supposed to be in the fifth grade, yet they held her back in the fourth grade because of her language barrier. This made her very frustrated because she felt as if she already knew all the topics that were taught to her and since there was no help for teaching a student to become bilingual, it really did not make a difference to her for what grade she would be in. Having the language barrier was very hard for her to endure because no one else in her family knew English that well and were not able to help her. I even asked if my uncle, who was in the same grade as her would help her, but he did not want to help her which made her feel very …show more content…

The one thing my cousin does not appreciate about America is the fact that our country is very throw away society and there is too much consumerism here. She believes that the way we mass produce objects creates pollution and a trashy society. In addition, she always admired the quality of a product. Which was a large difference to her native country, as long as the way of work life was a major difference in Italy. She claims that Italians has this catch phrase the sweet life, where to work to live, to enjoy time with their family and what not. In America, however, we all live to work and our lives get chaotic fast. She basically described Italy as a much slower pace society. Answering whether or not immigrating here was the right decision is because she was really little. Yet she does admire how America allowed for her to be able to provide for herself and have an independent life. The advice she would give to an immigrant is to immigrate as a family unit and stay together, as well as be prepared to work very hard. Overall, my cousin does have an impactful life as an
