Friend, It has come to my attention that one may prefer having Ralph as one's leader, but I reach out in an attempt to recruit you to the right tribe, Jack's tribe. I understand that Ralph has the conch, he certainly is not suitable to be a leader. It is rather vital to the survival of those on the island, to pick a side that keeps them alive, fed, and safe from the beast. Jack, along with the choir, have been great hunters, displaying strength and wit that Ralph does not display. While on the Island, one must find a reliable food source, the proper equipment to survive, and a way to adapt to their new environment. The methods that Jack and the boys in his tribe use ensure the survival of everyone. However since Jack's tribe is purely skilled hunters, one would never have to worry about starvation. When in the wilderness, one must get creative and think outside the box. Jack's tribe shows trends of innovation, an example of this can be seen when we use mud to camouflage in the bushes while we hunt for our prey. In an attempt to go with Ralph's plan of starting a fire, Jack makes a useful observation.“His specs--use them as burning glasses!” (Golding 31). Resourceful Jack quickly notices how Piggy's glasses can be used to start a fire, if not for his quick thinking, the boys would have not made it as far as they have already. While one may think that Jack is a reckless leader, he has had a bigger impact on the lives of the boys on the island than Ralph. It is important to consider all these points when choosing a tribe, one may view Jack as harsh or inattentive but Jack has been the best leader on the island for his quick thinking and skills.
