AN HONOURABLE LEADER An honorable leader has many characteristics and these characteristics differ from one person to another. In the extravagant book The Lord Of The Flies written by William Golding young boys get stranded on an island. As time progresses some of the boys turn more and more into savages. The book demonstrates how our society would be without rules, regulations and laws. The person that deserves to have the title of leader should be the most suited person, and the best person for the position of leader should be Jack Merridew. Jack said this to the other boys. Although may piggy maybe the smartest, Jack was the one who came up with the idea. At the same time everyone else was looking for lighters, matches and sticks to rub, Jack was sensible enough to use piggy's specs. Another characteristic Jack has is his Charisma. Throughout the entire book there have been many times Jack's charisma has been shown. He persuades the little'uns and the biguns to do what he wants through his charm. He knows what the boys want. “Ralph looked at Jack open-mouthed, but Jack took no notice. 'The thing is-fear can’t hurt you any more than a dream. There aren’t any beasts to be afraid of on this island '” (Golding 116). Mr. Merridew stated this during another assembly that Ralph called. During the same assembly a “beastie” was mentioned. In this quote Jack was telling the boys fear is just like a nightmare. Nightmares are imaginative just as fear is. The most important issue for the little'uns is concern of the beast. Jack says he will do all he can do to slaughter the beast. He is very good when it comes to speaking. Jack won the little'uns by offering to protect them from the beast and that helped get followers. Jack essentially knows what the boys want, and one thing the boys want is protection and Jack can provide that. This instance shows how much of a charismatic person Jack is. Merridew knows what the boys want and when they want it, Jack knows that the boys want protection, meat and to have have fun. Whereas all Ralph cares about is shelter and protection."All the same you need an army—for hunting. Hunting pigs”
