Clara is a student in the class I help. She is an English Language Learner (ELL) student. When interacting with Clara I was able to realize that she is a very bright student, she is very motivated and has a goal in mind. One afternoon during homework help she opened up to me and talked about her family; she told me that they where from Guatemala. Her mom had her when she was very young and that because having a child is too much work the mom had to stop going to school. She also told me that her mom wanted to be a lawyer. Clara is so proud of her mom from everything she has done. She works hard in school because she says that she wants to accomplish what her mom couldn’t and someday be a lawyer herself. I say this because when I work with her and I give her positive or negative feedback she is able to apply what I said and try to do things again. In the other hand when an assignment was given back to her about prime numbers and the teacher wrote a comment on it she didn’t read it and move on to other things. There has been a few times that I have caught Clara been off-task and one way that has work for me redirecting her to her work has been tapping on the workbook. For example, I will be walking around the class to offer supplementary help to students that need it and I see that Clara is either talking or just day dreaming, in this case I would walk around her and gently tap on the workbook and she will go back to doing the work, I don’t have to say anything but just show her what she has to be doing with a small tap. Even though Clara is an ELL student I can see that she is best communicating verbally in both English and Spanish, hence the distraction in class. She loves to be called on to answer question when the teacher asks and she takes pride what she says when
