Woodrow Wilson said, "You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand" (Haden, Web). In this quote, Wilson is critiquing the idea of simply enduring the motions of life. As a leader, he is encouraging the pursuit of purpose and optimism in all aspects of life: both intellectually and interpersonally. He is stating that it is within every individual’s responsibility and capability to ensure the well-being of our world and one another. Sympathy is not a valid basis for compromising one’s values. Both kindness and strength are imperative aspects of a successful leadership, and I hope to illustrate each in poise. The ambition to complete tasks and improve all aspects within a system is a significant element of success. The ability to create and implement an idea within a team setting is what defines a leader. This requires both a hopeful optimism and tenacity. One who is willing to work hard may expect ideal results, while one who exerts minimal force may anticipate a desolate outcome. With a goal in mind, a leader must execute his or her plan with persistence, patience, and punctuality. As a team leader, I would introduce the goal, then express the requirements to employ the plan. I would then listen and consider all suggestions given to me. Following this, as a team or individual, each detail of the plan would be applied step-by-step until the goal is achieved. Trial and error is also a factor when working toward an objective. I am striving to become an individual of perseverance in these circumstances.
