According to the Oxford Dictionary , democracy has the following definition: “A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives”. They key word being ‘elected’, as that is the true sense of democracy. A tyrannical state has no democracy, in such a state there is no justice, no freedom and no solidarity. The word “democracy” means “rule by the people.” Democratic governments are wanted in every country as they are there to protect their people’s human rights, welfare and interests. However they do differ in reasoning and methods. There are many different types of democratic bodies. This may be seen as a Social Democratic body is a bit tighter when it comes to finances. It will divide an allocated amount equally. This way it allows for everyone to get something and this creates less of a hierarchy amongst the people. The government further provides pre-funded healthcare and a subsidized education fee as well as aid for the elderly.
It further has disadvantages which are concerning. These majorly focus on the government changing ever4-6 years. This is insufficient time to set long-term goals. In a 4 year term, it is highly likely that short-term goals are more achievable as one does not know if they will be in chosen to lead at the next elections. Since the government controls the schools, hospitals and certain business. It has hiked up the taxes which is not affordable by all.
Liberal democracy promotes freedom. It helps to limit the governments power over the people as the head of state is elected by the people and therefore it is not a monarchy or a dictatorship and thus the people have a say. There might be serious repercussions later on. If at ever a country were to go into war, and such a country had a Liber Democratic body, it might take a while to get a much needed quick response.
