Marie Winn, the writer, progressively constructs an logical argument in order to convince the
reader that watching television is harmful to children by usage of persuasive language and mentioning
reliable facts, researches and studies done by professional researchers to prove the negative effects
to children of watching television; Winn also builds her statement by emphasizing the responsibility of
the parents that children should not watch television for a long time, because it will give harmful

Moreover, Marie Winn also strongly asserted her statement by emphasizing the duty of the
parents which is preventing the children to get affected by harmful elements. For instance, in the
passage, Marie Winn mentions about one group called “ACT: Action For Children” which is about
concerning and protesting against inappropriate programs which are incessant and violent. Then, she
mentions a quote which is “…Parents have the right to ask that programs aimed at the young should
meet the specific need of children…” Winn puts a quotation mark in this quote in order to emphasize
the voice of the parents is the easiest solution to prevent children from watching inappropriate
programs in television. Then, she keep mentions about the negative effects of watching television:
she mentions that “TV programs will find making friends difficult and will be labeled as an outsider”,
“Television offers cheap junk programs”, and “They need opportunities to work out basic family
relationships, thereby coming to understand themselves; television only reduces these opportunities”.
