Web-based communication plays a huge role on public attitudes, and in turn, has a large impact on political policy making. Modern technology has made the world a place where communication is at the tip of your fingers at all times, and people can connect with one another at any given time they like, so opinions are more widespread and public than they ever were before. Because technology has made it so easy for people to give their opinions and attitudes, public figures are now able to connect with the everyday person more frequently and see where the popular votes land.
Politicians are now on social media because this is where most people are now getting their news. Unlike previous decades that relied on a daily newspaper or the local news station, people have tablets and phones that they can swipe their finger and receive the latest breaking news at any given moment of the day. Policy makers are able to communicate with the general public and see where they stand in an easier way, but because they are so many news sources online and many are not exactly reliable, opinions are formed off of biased articles and should not be considered substantial. News and media being manipulated isn’t anything new; however, the internet is so readily available, however the source of the article wants the reader to think, the article will be biased enough to form the opinion of the reader. More people need to learn to critically think for themselves, question everything, and not believe everything they read online and then they should make based on the research they have
