Brian Williams is the editor of NBC Nightly News. In his essay “Enough about You” it addresses a big issue that social media is taking over the news world. He states that with social media news getting so popular he is losing viewers because of the American culture that has changed and people are only worried about themselves. A good point he uses is of how using the internet give us the ability to get the information that we only want to see and hear. Young people find social media especially useful for news because people in their social networks can recommend them. Some may not like this, but social media is big part of our society. Social media is the easiest way for people to pit their opinions and ideas about the news out there. It can be very hard for the readers to figure out what is a fact and what it fake. Surprisingly people trust news information from friends on social media than do from other sources. The public opinion strongly affects the main stream news sources who work very hard for their stories. With the wide use of social media rather than the main stream sources of news the result may be a loss of jobs for the people in this career. People are getting rid of traditional news and going to social media because it is hands on and convenient. However older people still depend mainly on television and newspapers for their news. Social media has become almost everyone’s primary source of news rather than mainstream news sources. Even though social media spreads information faster than any other media it spreads false and unreliable information. Social media makes it possible for anyone to publish their information that could be false and opinionated. News has changed over the years because of the technology. Today, anyone with a phone or computer is able to report news. It sometimes does not seem like a bad thing but it loses a lot of credibility.
