Many insurances play a significant role in healthcare primarily Medicaid insurances. Many studies have shown barriers to patients seeking primary care after ED visits due to their insurances. A study done by the Yale- led study have demonstrated that patients with Medicaid insurances and who had hypertension and back pain were less likely to receive post ED primarily care immediately. This event was interesting to me as I have previously worked in the emergency room and seen how patients have struggled with getting appointments at their primary physicians so would appear to the ER for help as their health got worse. Many patients that were seen at the ER were Medicaid or no insurances. I believe it is important for patients to receive appropriate treatment in a timely fashion no matter what insurances they have. It is important in the field of public health to collect, assess and analyze information of the community health. It is important to understand the contributing factors that lead to the situation as well as the amount of need in the community. Next, it is important for the community to have a plan for improvement and as well as steps and decisions taken by the government to protect and promote the public health. Even if patients have Medicaid insurance or no insurance, it is still important they receive treatment at the right time so it is important to have a plan for improvement. It is important to act based on the developed plans and evaluate its effectiveness. It is important for ED physicians and primary care doctors to develop strategies to improve the shift of care for patients that approach the emergency room to after primary care physicians.
