North Carolina, a state located on the southeastern side of the United States plays an important role in the United State’s economy. It’s industries such as mining, fishing, agriculture, services, and manufacturing all help the state to create an economy that is very strong. It’s government, which consists of a governor, lieutenant governor, the General Assembly, and the Legislative Services Commision allows the state to deal with its lawmaking, representation in the federal government, and crimes in an orderly fashion, keeping both its residents and state in good shape. Lastly, the topography in the state allow for a mixture of both natural resource industries and community/business industries that create a strong economy for the state which puts it as the 17th state with the best economy.
Before Europeans arrived on the shores of North Carolina, the land was inhabited by Native American tribes including the Croatan, Tuscarora, Cherokee, and Catawba. The largest of the tribes were the Cherokee; who lived in the mountains of the west. Spanish explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano was among the first Europeans to arrive and map the coastline of North Carolina in 1524.
