I am writing this letter in hopes of convincing your Highness to give permission to me to continue similar expeditions in the future. As someone who is quite interested in exploration and navigation, I believe that these types of journeys will very beneficial. Such travels have and will continue to help us figure out efficient trade routes, gain more knowledge about exotic lands such as the New World, and develop alliances with the native people. Your Highness would find it simply unbelievable as to how such explorations can facilitate in the growth of the economy, trade, and power. Why are effective trade routes so important? A land of mystery. A land filled with unknown animals, people, and opportunity. A land which is open to conquer and explore. On my third expedition, I set my goal with the East India Company to find the Northwest Passage. Although I was not able to find the Northwest Passage, I did however discover an unexplored bay, river, and strait which I think should be named after your Highness. Continuing on with my journey, when I found this waterway, my crew and I explored the surrounding area, and traded with the people living there. While I spent a few months there, I realized how this expedition is the main cause of discovering this waterway. Without going on this exploration, such knowledge would not have been gained. No one would have known that such a place existed. Knowledge would mean more power and if such explorations are continued, they would help keep this country well informed about the New World, which is becoming widely known. The New World seems to be the center of attention and if we know more about this place, it would be very helpful.
