Oxytocin is a hormone which is a nonapeptide hormone which is found in mammals. The hormone is produced in the hypothalamus which is a part of the brain. What the hormone does, is it transferred by the posterior pituitary gland into the bloodstream. Two of the most important actions in the human body are contractions in the uterus during lactation and childbirth.
In some cases, the manufactured oxytocin is given to women in order to make the contraction stronger, o to start labour if it isn’t able to start naturally in time. Also, manufactured oxytocin is in some cases given to women in order to speed up the procces of the delivery in the placenta, and to make the risk of heavy bleeding smaller by stimulating the uterus to have contractions. In addition, oxytocin increases the milk flow into the breast whilst breastfeeding, allowing the milk to be ejected from the nipple. Oxytocin is found not only in women, but in men as well, it plays the role of the sperm’s movement.

The hormone is a natural part of your body and can cause good and bad feelings. You can trick your body to release more oxytocin, to make ourselves feel better: If you hug or cuddle with a person (preferably with a person you love) can increase the releasing of oxytocin and making you feel happy but sometimes anxious (the butterflies you get in your stomach whilst hugging someone you have feelings for). If you are trusted to, or if you trust someone, can also increase the releasing of oxytocin. When you are anxious or in a panic, you can start breathing too slowly, or forgetting to breathe, to release oxytocin, you need to breathe deeply in these situations.
