Development of technology has affected many areas of social life and one of them was maternity and family in general. Traditions in these parts of human life have always been quite rigid, so, they have been changing slowly through the time. Invention of medical birth control transformed them greatly in a century. First oral contraceptives were used in the beginning of XX century and they were one of the factors which provoked changes in attitude to women’s rights in society. Even nowadays the use of birth control is widely discussed theme and there are both pro and contra reasons for them. However, it is undoubtedly that birth control has changed the life of society in a positive way.

There are two reasons for families to use birth control: control on family budgets and rise of family income because of both parents working. Child raising is quite expensive nowadays, and in case of the unplanned pregnancy welfare of family can be damaged. Except from that, women who are not tied to family and children participate in the workforce which also leads to economical growth (Canning, 2012).
Third and the last, but not the least reason pro birth control is the fact that their side effects are appreciated by many women. As it is known, oral contraceptives prevent unplanned pregnancy by changing of hormonal balance. Then, intake of oral contraceptives can make periods lighter and more regular, control acne and these additional effects are highly helpful for many women. Then, birth control can even decrease ovarian cancer risk, according to Modugno (2004), “Using oral contraceptives (…) were associated with a similar reduction in the odds ratios for ovarian cancer among women” (p.
