This essay will be comparing and contrasting two passages relating to religion acception and immigrants on todays society in America. The two articles are similar in many but also have a few points that differ. The passage “A Quilt of a Country” and “ The Immigrant Contribution” both refer to the impact of people that aren’t native to America, that came here to start a new, better life. “With the end of the cold war there was the creeping concern that without a focus for hatred and distrust, a sense of national identity would evaporate, that the left side of the hyphen- African-American, Mexican-American, Irish-American-would overwhelm the right.” This wordy section from the passage “Quilt of a Country” pg.15 differs greatly from the other passage “The Immigrant Contribution”. This passage is focusing more on identity than what immigrants do for the country. But, this passage does focus more on one identity for American as whereas the other passage (The Immigrant Contribution) focuses more on what immigrants have done for America’s economy. “We all know of course, about the spectacular immigrant successes: the men who came from foreign lands, sought their fortunes in the United States and made striking contributions, industrial and scientific, not only to their chosen country but to the entire world.” From the passage “The Immigrant Contribution” pg.24, this exemplifies that immigrants are not trying to blend into society, but rather make a difference and show that not everyone has to blend in and be
