Conspiracy on the Assassination of RFK Robert F. Kennedy was a popular public figure that was known for his politically led life. He served as an advisor for two presidents, his brother John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson. Robert then served in the United States Senate before he decided to run for president in 1968. During his time in Washington, D.C. Robert gained many enemies who disagreed with his political views. After winning the democratic primary election in California he met his fate. “Just after midnight on June 5, 1968, he was escorted through the kitchen pantry in the Ambassador Hotel” (Hancock, 2008). All the evidence pointed towards Sirhan and the government believes that he acted alone, with a religious motive. The FBI Kennedy Assassination Report (1977) says that “political views related to the Arab-Israeli conflict may have motivated Sirhan Sirhan” (p.5). Sirhan Sirhan was an Arab who migrated to the United States from Jerusalem (Hancock, 2008, p.1). At the time of Senator Kennedy’s campaign for office and the decision of his brother John, Sirhan did not like that “Senator Kennedy had favored aid to Israel with arms if necessary” (FBI, 1997, p.6). Sirhan Sirhan was in fact a communist who favored communist ideas and once stated that the “United States must fall” (Turner & Christian, 1993, p.53). According to the FBI report (1997) it also concluded that Sirhan had stated that, “Robert F. Kennedy must be sacrificed for the cause of the poor exploited people,”( p.9). Sirhan had confessed to the murder but later declared not guilty because he claimed he did not remember. The police blamed this on his obsession “with mystical powers, apparently believing that he was learning to control events with his mind” (Hancock, 2008, p.1). Hancock (2008) stated that “Psychiatrists determined that he was highly susceptible to hypnosis, and may have produced his strange writings while in a trance” (p.1). Therefore on April 17, 1969 Sirhan was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in the gas chamber” (Steiger & Steiger, 2006, p. 236).
