The Federal Government Regulating Information on the Internet When it comes to internet censorship, it is a split argument whether limiting access on the web is a positive or negative solution. Having no buffer on internet users can lead to various threats and extreme false news and advertising. Many people debate that having the internet censored is violating freedom of speech, yet having no limits leads to threats and extreme false news and advertising. Other issues begin to arise when there is no barrier such as human trafficking and other various harmful content that can be found without any difficulty. Censorship provides an enormous buffer to keep online users safe. It is easy to access multiple websites and videos that shouldn’t be allowed to be kept on the internet. On the web, there’s multiple videos pertaining to drugs, violence, and sexual themes. Kids shouldn’t be able to get to that easily, which they can when there isn’t anything censored or any protection. “When we are exposed to explicit or offensive content, it can have a negative impact on us, both psychologically and emotionally. Exposure to such content can lead to feelings of despair and anxiety that can affect our daily lives” (“Why is Censorship Important?”). Being introduced to this type of information online can lead to anxiety and depression based on how much you consume. Most parents don’t want their children to watch or take in anything inappropriate especially when they haven’t talked to them about these kinds of topics and why they are unacceptable. Having these loose on the internet will cause too much of a risk of damaging the health of the people using the web. Without the internet barrier that is needed, biased information, fake news, and violent content that shouldn’t be allowed to be published. Misinformation and disinformation can cause extreme danger to the main individual of the story and also the innocent bystanders that aren’t even a part of it. Fake news can cause mental health damage and even violence over a small rumor someone started over prejudice. Furthermore, without censorship, any age group can reach dangerous websites and videos that shouldn’t even be allowed to be surfaced online. In addition to this, Biased opinions will cause only one side of the argument to be revealed to multiple people that are constantly online due to algorithms. There’s also many news stories that are flawed because of bias that is caused throughout the media. The internet will never be fully fair but the government is the first step to be able to prevent certain aspects of online danger. Without them, the internet would be even more of a disaster than it already is. A buffer is what is needed to keep the community as safe as possible in this modern
