Social injustice is when an individual or group of people rights are ignored. An example of social injustice is racism. Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Another social injustice theme is police brutality. Police brutality is when the police use force well beyond what is needed to deal with civilians. Discrimination is another social injustice issue that is going on in America. Discrimination is treating different categories of people different especially on race, age or sex. An example of racism in the 1960’s was when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4th 1968. A form of civil disobedience is music. An example of this is in professional song writer YG’s song FDT. YG says, “I like white folks, but I don't like you all the niggas in the hood wanna fight you surprised the Nation of Islam ain't tried to find you.” YG is showing how much he doesn’t like Donald Trump in this song which is a peaceful way to protest. Another example of civil disobedience is comedy. This is shown when professional comedian Chris rock says "You would think that cops would occasionally shoot a white kid just to make it look good, you’d think every couple of months they’d look at their dead nigga calendar and go… ‘Oh my God, we’re up to 16! We gotta shoot a white kid quick!" Chris Rock made this joke to express how he feels police treat black kids unequal to white kids. This is another peaceful way to protest. These two forms of protest are effective because it is a non- violent way to bring America’s problems to the attention of the people.
