In this unit I learned about the procedures that follow the aftermath of an event in which the President is incapable to perform his or her responsibilities and duties as President of the United States of America. Before I started this portfolio I did not know the specific procedures that the President and Congress must follow when determining if the President can serve his country. I also learned who will fill in the spot of the successor if both the President and Vice President were unable to fulfill their duties. I now understand the purpose and procedures of the Presidential Succession Act and the 25th amendment. In order to understand the process that is undertaken when a president is incapable of fulfilling his duties and tasks of the office as described in the 25th amendment, I developed a scenario in which the President suffered a concussion. This visualization helped me to understand the delicate process of instating the Vice President as Acting President while the president was recovering from his head trauma.
