Is it a homophobia? “I don’t have a problem with homosexual’s. I have friends that’s homosexual’s.” In the novel The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater, we experience the life of an agender person named Sasha, formally named Luke. Sasha walks us through their life and their internal and external changes while simultaneously fighting for their life as their friends Andrew, formally known as Samantha, Michel, and their parents Karl, and Debbie cheer them on. As Sasha was asleep on the 57 bus headed home, two young men entered the bus, Lloyd and Richard. They then sat with Jamal, who was already on the bus. Jamal started making fun of Sasha, pointing at them and calling them a guy. Jamal then handed Richard a lighter and said something, pulled out his phone and began recording. Richard then set Sasha's skirt on fire. Now the people are debating whether Richard did it out of homophobia, he was peer pressured, or he did it jokingly to impress his friends.
