The Hobbit
In the book, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Mr. Bilbo Baggins lived a normal life until a great wizard, who went by the name Gandalf showed up at his door. Gandalf convinces Mr. Baggins to join him and thirteen dwarves on a journey and be their ‘burglar’ to recover a stolen treasure. This treasure is kept by a dragon, who goes by the name Smaug, and was taken many years ago from a kingdom. I choose to read this book because I am always interested in a good story and I love a classic. The Hobbit takes place in the Land of Middle Earth and although this is what the land is called there are certain places in this land where the group journeys: The Shire (a town of hobbit houses), the Misty Mountains, Mirkwood and the Lonely Mountain. Our group is met with many challenges such as spiders, wolves, elves, and nasty goblins, but none prepared them for the dragon that was waiting for them, guarding the kingdom and treasure. During their trip, the dwarves got captured by goblins who took them into their underground caves and imprisoned them. While the dwarves were being taken, Mr. Baggins stole a ring that turns him invisible from Gollum, a creature who lives in a lake underground near the trolls, he uses this ring to get himself and his friends out of danger in any situations. These situations include the run-ins with every other challenge they face. Even though there were many dangers in their path, there were also friends that helped them on their journey: Beorn, a skin changer; The Lord of the Eagles, who helped them escape the wolves and eventually helped them in The Battle of Five Armies and the people of Laketown who gave them food and shelter right before their trip up the Lonely
