The United States has been involved in many monumental events over the past centuries, however, its role in the world has changed dramatically throughout time. Since the birth of the United States, the US has stood for democracy and freedom as it still does today. Freedom to me means the ability to try new things and make mistakes. In the beginning, the US made a mistake by introducing slavery. According to World Net Daily, “slavery led to the catastrophic Civil War which separated the North and the South. Approximately 650,000 Americans died so slaves would be free, to the great honor of this country.” The act of slavery ended around 150 years ago and still to this moment the new president of our country is not embracing our country 's belief, freedom.
