Throughout the 20th century the United States would soon develop into a superpower, for example events like the Berlin Airlift which consisted of supplies being brought from America to berlin promoted democracy. Although this is just one event that shows that the the United States is a promoter of freedom throughout the world during the 20th century, they are also different events that occured to provide evidence that the united states is as well a defender and promoter in and out of the state. It demonstrates an eagle spreading its wings over neighboring nations to help out and encourage the nations to become a democracy (Document A). By America helping nations like Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, and Cuba out it allows these smaller, weaker countries to have a voice and be able to select government officials, as well as being an active member in society. Through the use of American imperialism, the United States was able to influence these nations into changing their constitution in efforts to improve their way of life by giving these nations rights. The United States took these weaker nations under their wing, which will give them the first Amendment. The first Amendment protects the rights of citizens which follows the free practice of a religion, freedom of speech, freedom of press, the right to peacefully assemble, ect. If America did not encourage a democracy among these nations they would have been subjected to communism; this would take away any rights that they would receive by living in a democracy. In 1963 Washington D.C the “I Have A Dream” speech verbally accorded to people in hope of change (Document F). According to Martin Luther King Jr there are seven racist states, in these southern states the people are conservative and discriminate against colored people. Martin Luther King Jr believed in standing up together knowing freedom will rain everywhere, one day colored people will no longer have laws hindering their rights. With freedom of rights states should be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. Even referencing the event of claiming our freedom from Great Britain, the Declaration of Independence. By bringing up the declaration of independence Martin Luther King Jr is correlating America's strongest ideas of democracy and by not following the law of the land, then it is not true equality. Another icon that is influential is Rosie the Riveter promoted in 1941 to 1945 (Document D). This robust icon was to encourage women to participate with the war by taking jobs of working in factories that the men had prior to leaving. In these factories they would create guns missiles, and submarines. This propaganda created by the government would have people buy into the idea of Rosie who was tuff and it influenced into women empowerment which had an additional positive effect of keeping the economy flowing.
