Throughout the turn of the 19th Century a big question was raised among the American people and their leaders, was America going to become an Imperialist state or not? The question was not really raised previously during the 1800’s. The people of America were previously occupied colonizing its own land and settling towns throughout the area. However, once they reached the end of their exploration, which ended at the Pacific Ocean, where would they go? Should they start to colonize other islands around the world, or shall they be content in their own little world? Several people thought differently about imperialism, and about how it would impact their rights, the reason behind the annexation, and the nation and if it was an appropriate policy to follow. In the 1800’s the economy had boomed and kept stable. The American people were content with the growing of their country. They were finding new lands and founding new cities throughout North America! The rights were kept safe for them. However, if they were to become an Imperialist state, how would they treat the people that were going to be under their power? The growing populace and the growing economy required that they should keep spreading outward (Doc. 2). This is true. The economy umtil then relied on the expansion of the nation. People were settling in the west, and they were discovering gold and how to build new items to spread their wealth to the rest of America! For the good of the security of the Americas they should show the world that they have power built up and are not to be trifled with. As Albert Beveridge once said “The power that rules the Pacific…is the power that rules the world” (Doc.
