The Tulsa race massacre was a changing moment in history. It was a huge event in history that changed our world. Randi Pink’s Angel of Greenwood is a historical fiction novel that informs the reader of the Tulsa race massacre and Booker T. Washington. The first aspect that Pink teaches the readers about is the Tulsa race massacre. First, the reader is introduced to how it all started. Everyone was very panicked and Angel had to leave her dad and run away from her house. According to the article, Tulsas Forgotten Riot, it says, “On May 31, 1921, hundreds of armed white men gathered outside the courthouse where the defendant was being held, and a group of armed black men arrived to try to prevent a lynching. A shot was fired at him. The black men fled to Greenwood, pursued by the whites.” (Tulsas Forgotten Riot) In another article, The Tulsa Massacre was a race riot that raged in Oklahoma City from May 31 to June 1, 1921, it says, “Death-toll estimates range from 39, 26 black and 13 white (official), to 300. "God grant," said President Warren Harding, "that... we never see another spectacle like it.” This shows that the Tulsa race massacre was a huge event in history and it started a huge movement across the world.
