Railroads in the 1930s Railroads played a vital role in the economy in the 1930s. They transported people and goods in the 1930s. They were invented by John Stevens, whose nickname is “the father of American railroads'' (“The Beginnings of American Railroads and Mapping | History of Railroads and Maps | Articles and Essays | Railroad Maps, 1828-1900 | Digital Collections”). Despite the depression, the railroads were a very good thing in the 1930s. They evolved in the 1930s by what the train cars were like, the types of engines that were used, and how people and industries benefited and didn’t benefit from the railroads.
