Canada is a democratic country, meaning it allows all citizens over the age of eighteen who are legally Canadian to vote in both federal and provincial elections. Although Canadians are given the freedom and amazing opportunity to vote and make decisions for what they think is best for our country, not all Canadians decide to vote. In a country like Canada, it is important for everyone to vote since having even one person not vote can make a huge difference in the final results. In other words, it is vital that most, if not all Canadians participate in voting as it increases the accuracy and legitimacy of the electoral system. These non-voters provided different reasons such as being out of town, having an illness or disability, or working. Already, there are a couple of solutions to these issues. If citizens of Canada are too busy to vote on the actual Election Day because they are out of town, they are able to vote at advance polls which are held on specific days before the Election Day from 12pm-8pm. In addition to this, they can also vote by special ballot by applying for one and mailing to their local Elections Canada office. Moreover, if someone has an illness or disability and are located in a hospital or long-term care facility, they can easily vote at a mobile polling station in their residence. All they have to do is show proof of their identity and address. Additionally, when one says that they are too busy working on Election Day, by law eligible electors have to receive three consecutive hours to vote on Election Day or be given some time off of work. This is typically just an excuse that is used when someone is too lazy to head out and vote on Election Day. Twenty-three percent of people is a relatively large potion of Canada and this is why we need to spread the word of these solutions for people too busy so that they can vote in an alternative
