Schubert was born on January 31st, 1797 and died on November 19th, 1828. Schubert was born in Austria. Franz Schubert is best known for his compositional and piano prowess. Schubert was most famously known for taking this poem written by Goethe and putting it to music. Schubert was accumulating momentum and success in his career when he put this poem to music. In other words, he was at the high point of his musical career prior to getting syphilis. Schubert made this piece in 1815. In addition, it premiered in Austria. The composer was known for being one of the first prominent female pianist. She was highly gifted as a child and had access to some of the best music teachers since she was from a well-to-do family. Eventually as she got older and got more serious about being a musician, her father reminded her that she should focus on her future role as a wife. The work’s name is Das Jahr and it was written in 1841. Hensel wrote this piece at a high point in her life right after she returned from Italy. This was when she gained musical recognition beyond in just her family. This programmatic cycle featuring the months of the year was written in 1841 in Berlin. This cycle is known as her most successful musical work and it was promoted by her friend Robert von Keudall despite her family members not approving. Das Jahr: No. 9 September is in ternary form (ABA’) and has a coda at the end. What the audience members should listen for is the rubato used and the running 16th note which emulates running water. In Das Jahr: No.12 December she doesn’t use a specific form, rather using a free flowing theme. In this piece the audience members should listen for the 16th note to emulate a sound that represents flurries and blustery wind. In Das Jahr: No.1 January she also uses ternary form (ABA’).
