I have couple of examples, but one out of the most interesting cases in the US is the case of Ethan Couch. At the time of his crime Ethan was only 16 years old. Coming from a very wealthy family in California, Ethan never knew struggles of everyday life of others. On June 15 of 2013 Ethan was driving his father’s truck with 7 other people inside, running into another vehicle in the residential area and killing 4 people and injuring 7. Ethan had restricted license, he was speeding, driving under influence of alcohol and drugs (Mitchell, 2014).
On June, 2013 Ethan Couch a wealthy teen was speeding and caused a crash which he ended up killing four people and injured two. It turns out that his blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit. He could have faced twenty years behind bars but his attorneys claimed that his affluenza (a product of wealthy, privilege parents who didn’t set rules for him, and doesn’t know right or wrong) made him blameless for his actions. The judge didn’t give him a sentence but ordered for his parents to pay for treatment and got 10 years of probation. His parents agreed to pay $450,000 a year for his rehabilitation.
Who’s to blame for Ethan Frome In the book “Ethan Frome” by Edith Wharton we see the main characters involved in a tragedy that has lifelong effects. The person to blame in this tragedy is Ethan Frome. Ethan Frome is to blame in this tragedy because he let love manipulate his judgment. If Ethan Frome was mentally strong enough to speak on his feelings with the woman he loved and his wife maybe the tragedy would’ve never happen.
Tony Bennett’s real name is Anthony Dominick Benedetto, he was born on August 3, 1926, in Astoria, Queens, New York. His mother 's and father 's names were Anna Suraci and John Benedetto. His mother was a seamstress and his father was a grocer. His father came to the United States in 1906 and his mother was born in the United States, but her parents came to America from Italy. From the 1865 to 1914 twenty-five million Europeans came to America, Tony’s father and grandparents were some of the many to make the trip.
He’s the Queen “We all have our little Secrets.” People aren’t always how we imagine. Sometimes our perceptions of others can be misleading. After all, we all have our own little secrets. David Arnold is a perfect example.
Since 1984 there has been a federal act that strongly advises states not to allow citizens under the age of 21 from drinking alcoholic beverages. To this day there are still people arguing about this law, both for and against it. Having a minimum drinking age set at 21 is a popular ongoing debate that has many supporters and disputers. To begin, alcohol was a key topic in debates
Should the United States lower the legal drinking age, which is now twenty-one, to a more reasonable age, such as eighteen. The legal drinking age is unjust and unfair. Therefore, it should be lowered to eighteen to make all adults equal. Individuals often compare drinking with unsuccessfulness and/or recklessness, and that is not the case at all. Overtime there have been millions of successful and intelligent people that commonly consumed alcohol.
However, “90% of drunk driving deaths in the United States were found in the over 21 age group” (Gruenewald). For this reason, drunk driving is not directly correlated with the drinking age. In addition, the percent of drunk driving deaths in the United States has reduced at a slower rate than European countries where they have their legal drinking age at eighteen. This suggest that if lowering the drinking age was a success in Europe, it may also be effective here in the United States to diminish the amount of drunk driving deaths. This is because people that become injured due to alcohol or alcohol poisoning are afraid to report their injuries to the hospital or authorities out of fear of illegal consequences for underage drinking.
There has been an ongoing controversy in the United States on whether the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen like most of the world or if it should stay at twenty-one. Underage drinking has been a major controversial issue for years, yet why is it not under control and why is the underage drinking problem still relevant? Teenagers are continuing to buy alcohol with fake IDs, get into bars, and drink illegally. There are a lot of factors that come together to why the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen; For one, The drinking age used to be eighteen, People can go into the military at the same age. the most obvious reason is too many people are drinking before they are twenty-one.
Teen drinking is one of the most controversial and serious topic in the United States and other countries. In USA, a person needs to be 21 years old in order to be legally consuming alcohol. However, the age drinking has not always been the same, before 1984 the legal drinking age was 18, but for many reasons the government decided to pass a law to raise it to 21. A lot of people disagree with the drinking age but most people agree that 21 is a reasonable age to be responsibly drinking. The legal age drinking in the United States should stay as 21 and not lower because alcohol consuming needs responsibility,
Lowering the drinking age: risky or safe? When teenagers turn 18, they are told that they are adults and are sent into the world. They go to college, get a job, marry or join the military. They do grown-up things like vote, pay taxes and become parents, but they can 't go to the bar for a beer.
In some countries, like in Europe the drinking age is set at 18. Even though people in the US think this is insane, this set age has more positive effects than people think it would. It is known that binge drinking is a problem in the US since it has the highest rate in the world for binge drinking. In Europe, teenagers get their license at age 18, and some drinking ages are lower than that, they figure out how to control their drinking before the drive. Unlike in the US, kids drink and then drive because they either have to be home by curfew or they are too scared to call their parents for a ride, and admit they had been under the
A poll taken on July 2014 asked the public opinion of US adults for lowering the US legal drinking age from 21 to 18. Approximately 74% of the people opposed the idea, whereas roughly 25% of the people supported the idea ("Public Opinion" 1). The statistics indicate satisfaction among the majority of the people; however, with the current laws many issues arise that must be addressed concerning alcohol use. For starters, studies show an increase of dangerous drinking habits among young adults (Hall 2). In addition, the enforcement of the drinking laws and education on alcohol is insubstantial (Moyse, Fonder 3).
Over the years, the legal drinking age in the United States has been heavily debated. Some argue that the legal age to drink should be 18 or 19 because people at that age are recognized as adults; others argue that the drinking age should be 21 because people who are able to drink should be more mature and have their lives better planned out. Although people are legally adults at 18, they are not yet mature adults; in fact, according to NRP, “emerging science about brain development suggests that most people don’t reach full maturity until the age 25” (“Brain”). Before earning the right to legally drink, people should allow their bodies to fully develop and gain a better knowledge of how to organize their lives. The drinking age should remain
Since I am interested in why the legal drinking age is 21 years old, I am blind sided by how alcohol destroys many lives. I chose this topic because underage drinking is a problem that all countries face today. Suicide, homocide, and motor vehicle accidents are prime examples of abusing alcohol.
