Ethics committees assist with resolving ethical issues and provides provisions to health care professionals in ethical matters. Ethics committees have three major functions, which are providing clinical ethics consultation, developing and reviewing policies and providing education on issues that relates to clinical ethics (McLean 2007). Their goal is to promote the rights of patients, promote shared decision making between health care professionals and patients, promote fair policies and procedures that will result in a positive outcome for the patient and enhance the ethical environment for health care professionals and facilities.
