Ethics Personal Statement – FA16 BA 342 Patrick Quirk Introduction: Ethics is something that all people should hold as a core value. I firmly believe that ethical behavior is what drives the world forward. Knowing the difference between right and wrong can make all the difference in how a person lives and how others view them. I will be discussing my own personal views on ethics. I will explain my own ethical upbringing, and how I see ethics applied in society today. Personal: To me ethics is the foundation of our society. Personally I believe that a person’s ethical background says a lot about them. Ones perception of right and wrong determines how trust worthy or dependable they might be. If I knew a person had a tendency to lie or steal from others, I would be less likely to trust them or want to be around them. I firmly believe that, honesty and integrity are two important values that tie in close to ethics. In everything I do, I always try to keep my ethical background in mind. I hold myself accountable and use my conscience in my daily decision-making. Through my experience in ethics, I respect those who hold themselves to a similar standard. Here in the United States we have laws in place that push those here to act ethically. Essentially these laws hold people to a degree of ethical responsibility. Those in the United States are expected to adhere to these laws. They hold those accountable for their actions. Citizens are expected to act responsibly and to know right from wrong. Stealing, cheating, and fraud are all examples of unethical behavior that have appropriate repercussions by the law. The Government uses these repercussions as a way to steer citizens on a path of ethical and morally correct behavior. For me personally these laws helped to form my perception of right and wrong. Rules help keep us on the right path. The United States creates these rules to help deter citizens from unethical
