You Can Go Home Again Analysis From pages 495 to 497 author Eve Tushnet wrote an essay titled “You Can Go Home Again.” This essay was about how it is okay to go home and live with one’s parents again if someone is older. First the essay brought up the opposition and what people think about when someone lives with their parents. The essay also brought forth different data and studies about older people that live at home. After that, the essay brought up good points about what living with one’s parents can do for them.
Anzaldua’s use of pathos and anaphora in her speech helps communicate the idea that women of color should have the same ability, as white woman, to write. Gloria Anzaldua is trying to influence women to no let oppression stop them from speaking their minds. Anzaldua believes there are people who are able to see into the future, but do not see; others are able to speak, but do not; others have ears, but do not listen. These kind of people shouldn't be listened because they make assumptions of themselves, and only put ideas on people’s minds. Ethos is equivalent to credibility. Waldinger clearly makes his audience believe what he says by explaining surveys which lead to really strong data. He also states several different quotes by Marc Twain, which provided important pieces of evidence and different perspectives to his speech. This allows the audience to know that she can relate to the situation. Most everyone texts and it can be easy to allow such language to bleed over into any type of formal writing. She, however, believes that people have enough common sense and control and that most people don't allow themselves to use such language in their final drafts of their formal writings. As you saw in the opening of Plato 's Phaedrus, the Greeks established a sense of ethos by a family 's reputation in the community. Our current culture in many ways denies us the use of family ethos as sons and daughters must move out of the community to find jobs or parents feel they must sell the family home to join a retirement community apart from the community of their lives ' works. The appeal from a person 's acknowledged life contributions within a community has moved from the stability of the family hearth to the mobility of the shiny car. When Thatcher mentions her position as a previous prime minister, she is conveying her credibility in order to attempt to appear authoritative.
