Unlike the face to face communication of past decades, millennials have chosen to transition away from the usual human contact interactions of socialization and adopt digital technology tools such as the cellular phone for their main extension of socializing and communicating amongst friends, family, and other social networks. In the documentary film, "Celling Your Soul", Instructor, Joni Siani, along with her students, discusses the Love/ Hate relationship between Millennials and their digital devices, as well as the effects that digital socializing has on dependency, mental health, and interpersonal relationships. The primary method of appeal being used for the documentary film, "Celling Your Soul", is Ethical or Ethos, because the film is presented with facts and evidence in a way that makes audiences believe what is being expressed, as well as having the ability to make readers trust and respect the judgement of the presenter. The ethos method for this film was impactful in that it spelled out values and beliefs as well as provided a platform to others with different opinions. The film also used tones and appeals that were both fair and reasonable, established credentials, and instilled confidence in the readers. In my opinion, I believe that either appeal logical (logos), emotional (pathos), or ethical (ethos) could have worked to gather audiences and makes valid points in the film, however, ethos was the best method in that it the credentials of Joni Siani, as well as the students, enhanced the message of the film and provided an overwhelming increase in persuasion. A logical appeal may have worked for this film in that it relies on clear reasoning and sound evidence to influence the thinking of readers and supplies reliable statistics and the long-term effects and consequences, but lacked the credentials needed by an expert to fully persuade the reader. The emotional (pathos) method may have worked for this film, in that it displayed images and video clippings to arouse the audience, however, the film itself was not created as a component for emotional response, instead, the film was created to enlighten and educate audiences with information that have been backed by facts and reputable
