Ethos, pathos, and logos are the three argumentative appeals. During my years in college, I have been required to write an argumentative paper. Before starting my paper, I had to decide which argumentative appeal I would use. I always ended up using logos, and that’s why I believe that logos are the most useful appeal for an academic argument. Logos are sometimes referred to as logical appeals. This means that I would need to find a logical reason to support my claims. I believe that logos are most useful in academic writing because you can use quotations and statistics to support your claims. For example, if I were required to write an essay on why the legal drinking age should be lowered in South Carolina, I could use statistics that would help support my claim. College writing is supposed to help develop your skills and prepare you for a future career. In all jobs, you will have to use some type of reasoning to complete a task. I know that using logos as an argumentative appeal will help sharpen my reasoning skills for the future. However, this could be a drawback because everyone does not have the same reasoning skills.
