I’m currently working on an essay and have included two of the three rhetorical appeals Logos and Ethos. The main appeal is Logos, because There is a lot of information and facts. Ethos also, because there is authority that will help back up the claims. My audience is not directed to any individual group it is intended for everyone.
Doctors are infamous for their unreadable writing; Richard Selzer is not one of those doctors. A talented surgeon, Selzer has garnered critical acclaim for his captivating operating room tales, and rightfully so. A perfect exhibition of this is The Knife, a detailed illustration of a surgery. What may seem like an uninteresting event is made mesmerizing by Selzer’s magnificent account of the human body and the meticulousness that goes into repairing it. The rhetorical appeals, tone, and figurative language that Selzer uses throughout The Knife provide the reader with a vivid description of the sacred process of surgery.
Tone and word choice are major key factors for getting readers a full and vivid experience of what you’re trying to tell them. In “The Devil’s Thumb”, Krakauer chooses to utilize downsizing, depressing words and phrases in his writing like, “Beyond shame”, “self-pity”, “felt so alone”, “abandoned”, “vulnerable”, etc. His word choice overall gives a bitter tone to the story. He uses these words to give a more vivid, detailed description of how he was truly feeling at that very moment. While stuck in a snow storm, sitting in a dug out hole, he thought, “Beyond shame, I cradled my head in my arms and embarked on an orgy of self-pity.”
In the story “The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History”, Jennifer Price explains the influence of “plastic pink flamingo phenomenon.” Furthermore, she also delineates the lavish nature of real flamingos. However, Price’s purpose is not to enlighten the readers of either real or artificial flamingos. In fact, Price attempted to introduce her own view of the United States culture. By talking about these plastic flamingos, she gets a point a crossed to the readers.

In my opinion, Pastor Paul quoted two of the most profound statements which was King Solomon 's quote "Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires" this was a crucial message because it was directed at women who throughout history have had a tendency to seek love and in many cases try to force love when it is non-existent. The ASPCA is an organization that is against animal abuse, its acronym stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses diction like abstract diction and details by explaining what he exactly wants in life to demonstrate Walter and his dream. To begin, Hansberry uses diction to demonstrate Walter and his dream by using abstract diction. She does this by explaining how he will give Travis anything for his seventeenth birthday and that he will “hand you the world!” (2.2). This shows that he wants to make his sons life as good as possible.
Brian Doyle in his text Joyas Voladoras he uses vivid and clear imagery, repetition, comparison, syntax and effortless diction to show his purpose which is it does not matter the size of a heart but its ability to live life to its fullest and hopeful that each day will be good. In the first paragraph he repeats the words “ A hummingbird’s heart is,” this shows the reader how the hummingbird’s heart is. “ not soon” this is in the second paragraph and it describes the urgency of the want. “You” is repeated to show the timeline and how it is similar to the human life. “So much held in heart in a,” this is used to describe all the little precious moments at the end of our lives.

“Terrible Things” is a powerful allegory that tells a tale to warn the readers about the Holocaust.
