Concussion injuries have been a big speculation in the National Football League (NFL). Documents filed in federal court showed the NFL expects nearly a third of all retired players to develop some form of long term cognitive problem- such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia in their lifetime as a result to head injuries or concussions suffered on the field. After years of denial the National Football League is starting to come clean. In this editorial the author is trying to inform the public about these accusations. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Just after the author spoke upon the nearly 100 deaths football players conjure due to concussion related injuries; the reader sees a picture of young boys in their football pads. This makes the reader think about their children or loved ones. They don’t want anything to happen to them. Under the photo in the third paragraph the author is appealing to the emotions of the parents by summing up that it’s not just professional that accrue concussions. Your children, grandchildren, or any one you know can get a concussion playing football. This all relates back to the photo of the young players. The readers that are parents receive a spark of concern for their loved one by viewing the photo and reading the paragraph. The author is conveying that the Commissioner …show more content…

It means convincing someone of the character’s credibility. Using credibility makes any argument more believable. A person with high credibility is more believable than a regular person with no credibility or background. The author starts off by using the credibility of Jeff Miller, The National Football League’s Senior Vice President. He/ She quoted Miller responding “yes” to the question about concussion linked injuries to football. This persuades the reader to believe the author’s view point because he’s the senior vice president of the entire football league. He has a high ranking in the N.F.L so whatever he says about football has some form of importance. The credibility continues when the author states “Dr. Anne Mckee of the Boston University School of medicine have been able to conform C.T.E (chronic traumatic encephalopathy),”to make a point. Once again the author is stating a person of high regard and giving a brief background description to make their argument more believable. The professional status of the doctor helps the author make his /her claim. By providing all that school and background additional information the reader has no way to argue with that. If the author just stated Dr. Ann Mckee without the all that following school information, his /her point would have been weak. The School information about the Doctor supports or makes the author’s point stronger. The
