Mid-Term Exam Timothy was born from mixed parentage, his mother Eunice was a Christian Jewess and his daddy was a Gentile. He was born in the city of Lystra. His mother and grandmother Lois nourished and instructed him in the Old Testament. His characteristics were similar to Paul. Timothy was young and somewhat shy person, but Paul believed in his call to ministry. Paul refers to Timothy as a true son, one whom he fines to be trustworthy. He often accomplished Paul on many missionary journeys. • In 1Timothy 5:21-25 Paul charged Timothy to keep yourself pure, a upright behavior
• In 1Timothy 6:11-16 Paul charged Timothy as a man of God, in every way, to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love endurance and gentleness.
• In 2Timothy 1:6-14 Paul encouraged Timothy by being reminded of God’s commission to him (Guthrie, page 143). He charges Timothy as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, and he did not need a new gift. He only needed to rekindle what was already in him, the gift of God; Timothy is to “fan into flame.” He is to keep the kindle afresh.
• In 2Timothy 1:13-14 Paul urges Timothy to guard the good deposit, the pattern of sound teaching. God has entrusted you with these teachings.
• In 2Timothy 2:4-6 Paul charged Timothy to remember his spiritual heritage that he learned from his mother and grandmother.
• In 2Timothy 2:8-13 Timothy is challenged to remember Jesus as the risen and living Lord.
• 2Timothy 2:14-19 Paul tells Timothy to take a stand against those who are waging a war of words against the gospel.
