When I was little I had a dog named Zeus. Zeus was 13 years old whenever he had to be put down because it hurt him to walk. It got to the point were he didn’t want to eat because it took too much energy. My Mom always told me, “It was better for him to die because he was in too much pain.” Whenever someone ‘puts down’ and dog or an other animal it is actually called euthanasia. Euthanasia can be done to terminally ill patients. In “Of Mice of Men” by John steinbeck George was in the right whenever he euthanized Lennie, because Lennie was becoming more violent, out of control, and mentally unstable. Lennie was becoming more and more violent throughout the book. Lennie became so violent that he broke Curley’s hand, a puppies neck, and Curley’s wife’s neck. In the book Curley attacked Lennie and George told Lennie to stop Curley. On page 63 “Curley’s fist was swinging when Lennie went for it. The next minute Curley was flopping like a fish on a line” (Steinbeck). Curley picked a fight with Lennie, who retaliated, but Lennie couldn’t stop and obliterated his hand. In the beginning of chapter 6 it states, “And then from Lennie’s head there came a little fat old lady….and when she spoke, it was Lennie’s voice”(Steinbeck 100-101). Lennie was so far gone that he was having full conversations with himself. Euthanasia isn’t always bad it can help with mentally ill patients. Lennie would have just gotten worse and worse throughout his life. In a document Presis states “euthanasia for people who are terminally ill would increase quality of life by lifting the stress of facing painful death.” For some instances euthanasia is the best option. Lennie’s mental state made euthanasia the correct
