Jeff McMahan probes the morally-provocative question, “is morally permissible for an individual to join the armed forces if he will thereby become an “unjust combatant?” I will present two arguments to debate this question, epistemic justification and pacifism. I will implore the use of Reserve Police Battalion 101 as a historical example to support my conclusion that epistemic justification, or the moral permissibility for a man to join the armed forces in defense of an unjust cause, as the stronger of the two arguments. Before progressing any further, it is imperative to have a foundational understanding of “just combatants” and “unjust combatants,” as McMahan understands theses terms.
Utilization of Force Continuum are to a great extent in light of the basic law elucidation that cops need not withdraw when stood up to with resistance and the Tennessee v. Earn (1985) and the Graham v. Connor (1989) choices by the United States Supreme Court, which held that there must be a target sensibility while assessing the sort of power
One common opinion is that officers should not use more force than is necessary or reasonable, and even then, that force should be used only as a last resort. “Police use force to affect civilians’ conduct. On a day-to-day basis, they do so most often by employing the least degree of force available to them, their mere presence. Cops wear uniforms and drive distinctly marked cars so that, without saying a word, they may have an effect on citizens’ behavior” (Fyfe, 38). When an officer’s presence fails to fulfill the desired conduct, the next course of action for said officer would be verbalization.
A police officer is an employee of the government who has been given the duty to enforce the law by maintaining order and arresting lawbreakers. If I were to go into law enforcement then I would like to be the Social Agent, since the major duty of the police is to serve and protect the public; hence, I would be willing to combine with other typologies (Patterson, 2014). Actually, it is useful to have these typologies, as it will ensure that the public and the police officers get to understand that police officers can be different but their main aim is to serve the same purpose. The following are the reason why I feel it is good to have the typologies Typologies will enable me to create a good relationship to all people that includes both the
The 525th Military Police Detention Battalion held a quarterly challenge, the Vigilant Warrior Competition, for their Troopers, Sept. 27 on U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Troopers competed in numerous activities at the G.J. Denich Gym and Cooper Field. The event started with a 100-meter run, followed by pull-ups, dead lifts, sit-ups, push-ups, 5K run, and a mystery event, which consisted of two Army Warrior Battle Tasks. Troopers arrived at 4:45 a.m. for the opportunity to compete in the challenge. “It takes a lot of things we do as Soldiers and adds everything cumulatively so it stresses the Soldier to a point where they are tired but they have to function and they still have to do fine motor skills,” said U.S. Army Lt.
Could you imagine having to go to a separate bathroom or use a separate water fountain just because of your skin color? What about not being able to go to school and get the education you need to become successful just because your skin was not white? How would you feel if you were restricted to do many things just because of the way you look? Well in the late 1870's and early 1880s, Jim Crow laws were enforced in the south. This allowed segregation to be legal between African American people and white people.
The NSW Police Force (NSWPF) are expected to comply with the ideals and expectations outlined in legislation and policy documents. These documents provide ethical, moral and legal principles to shape the decision-making process of police in the execution of their duty. This essay will discuss the failures of police to comply with these principles in dealing with potential juvenile offenders in the scenario. It will do this by examining their actions with reference to NSW legislation and relevant police force policy documents, discretionary powers and their application in the scenario, and communication techniques which could have had a more positive impact while complying with the directives of the NSWPF.
The last power I’m going to talk about is how the police have codes to protect them against any accusations that the suspects make. The first example of this would be the tape recording of proceedings that the police use when they conduct interviews when with a suspect. There are mainly two reasons why the police use tape recordings in interviews with suspects. The first reason is because it shows that the police are doing the interview right and are following procedures just like they are supposed to. Tape recordings are to make sure that the police aren’t threatening the suspect or doing anything they shouldn’t be doing, so if the suspect accuses them of doing so, the police will have proof that what the suspect is saying isn’t the true.
Use of force is the amount of force used in a given situation during police work. The police are supposed to follow the continuum when it come to using force. This continuum is known as the “Use of Force Continuum”. Despite this, use of force is still a constant problem in policing. There are many cases where a cop are sued for using more force than necessary, sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident.
I will be comparing and contrasting grizzly bears and polar bears. They are both very different but they also have some similarities. They both are very popular bears and well know across the world. They are known for their adorable faces and fluffy fur, but don’t get too close, they are dangerous to be around, especially when they have their cubs with them. Polar bears and grizzly bears both are part of the bear family.
In some cases, police officers exert excessive force on individuals. The amount of force should be necessary for the situation. For example, a police officer should not use a weapon because a civilian will not obey an initial command. In the article, When Does Force Become Excessive?,
2200- At 10:42 pm as the writer was performing front desk duties a resident who lives in 508 called and said that there was someone banging on her door. So the writer then went upstairs to go see what was going on. Once the writer went up there the writer notice that no one was at the door, the resident heard me and opened her door to speak to the writer, however the second she came to the door a man dropped out of the stairwell and barged into the resident’s home. The resident then told the writer to call the police; while she was telling the writer to call the police the man was searching the women’s home going into her room and checking to see if someone was in there with the resident.
One advantage of police using force is the authority of law over any unlawful abiding citizen. The police have the authority to stop a crime before it occurs and that helps prevent crime in the first place.
Depending on who you ask, what one considers police abuse of power, another may not. Today, regardless of many views to its legal contrast to police organizations, abuse of police power can be realized in forms of action such as verbal, harassment, false arrest, assault, excessive use of force, and illegal killings. However, regardless of what one considers, when those consistent actions of abuse by the police become the norm, it not only creates abuse, but also a stigma towards the police. Police harassment, use of excessive force and/or deadly force is destroying police-minority community relations.
LICEING THE 21ST CENTURY The police are the public and the public are the police - Robert peel When we talk about the criminal justice system the public at large plays a very important role right from the prevention to reporting to the investigation of the case. The word police, inspires confidence inspires a sense of truse, security, commitment, and public service.
