Evelyn Boyd Granville was born in Washington D.C on May 1, 1924. Her father William Boyd worked odd jobs due to the Great Depression she was even the valedictorian at Dunbar High School. . Evelyn Boyd was separated from her mother when she was young. Evelyn and her sister Doris were raised by her aunt and her mother. Her mother was Julia Walker Boyd. Dunbar High School back in the day was segregated but the school was academically competitive.
Her achievements were contributing to the good of all people.These individuals were men and women that served as our role models. We looked up to them and set out to be just like them.” Ms. Granville accepted education as the means to rise above the limitations that a prejudiced society places upon them. Evelyn’s interest were reading upon books about being a math teacher. She read about about what would it take to be a teacher. As a little girl she wanted to be a teacher because that’s all she saw around her. Black, well-dressed women teaching. She was also not aware of any other profession until she stepped out into the world when she got into college. Another one of her hobbies was just reading all types of books.

Evelyn Boyd Granville was motivated towards mathematics and also got her fame because in 1960 she performed to research on computing orbits for the Computation and Data Reduction Center of Space Technology. In 1962, Granville accepted work at the APollo Project at North American Aviation. Years later she returned to the International Business Machines where they offered her a senior mathematician position with its Federal Systems Division. She also got motivated towards math because when Ms.Granville took a job with the international business machines corporation and that business contracted with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Ms.Granville became famous because she created computer software that analyzed satellite orbits for the Project Vanguard and Project Mercury space
