An Underestimated Position People think that pitching is just consisted of being able to throw the ball over the plate, but really, there’s a lot of steps that pitchers do before even stepping on the mound and even throwing the ball. Every pitcher has his or her way of warming up and throwing. No one is required to throw the same way every time but there are some fundamentals that all pitchers follow from little league all the way to the majors. catchers and pitchers have the best relationship on the field. Catchers need to learn their pitcher’s pitches they throw and know each move that their pitcher makes. A good catcher will know when their pitcher is struggling and will know how to calm he or she down. Catchers also have special gloves with extra padding that helps them caching the ball being that a pitcher throws a lot faster than the infielders and from a closer distance. It’s good for catchers to have an outline of a bright color around their glove to help pitchers see their target better. Some catchers even tape their fingers o that a pitcher can see what pitch the catcher wants. It’s a cool language that pitchers and catchers have with signs. Before games, usually pitchers and catchers will go thru their signs that way they know what each other are talking about. Whether it’s what number is what pitch or signs to tell each other where the runner on base is or when to pick off. As a pitcher, you want to stay balanced, and have all your momentum going forward to the target that the catcher is giving you. I’ve learned to overcome difficult situations and to believe in myself and my team mates. Pitchers’ aren’t alone out there on the field. We have our teammates to help us. There’s nine people out there on the field all contributing to each win a team gets. I’ve learned to be thankful and to be a good team mate and to not be selfish. And with the help of my coaches, I’ve learned the fundamentals of being a pitcher and have learned that pitching is not for everyone, but I love it.
