Last March, I came to realize that all of my focus was only on school, sports, and work and I didn't take the time to help out my community in enough ways as I should. I wanted to do something that I would enjoy and knew that I loved kids so I decided to email our elementary school principal and see if there was anything I could do to help out in the school. So ever since then, I started going in every Thursday to volunteer with whatever he needed me to do. Sometimes I would work for him, other times for the librarian, secretary, or other teachers. A lot of the time, however, I would pull kids out of class and help them on a paper that they didn't understand or we would read books together. Another big project that I am currently working on at Elda Elementary is recording, counting, and re-organizing every single book in the school library. I go in and take it one shelf at a time, counting each book, and recording the title and author. The librarian saw how I was coming in a lot and reached out to me asking if I would be interested in doing this for her. It has taken me four weeks now and I am not even halfway done. I like helping Mrs. Francis out because of how sweet and grateful she is for everything I do for her. She is busy teaching her classes and helping them find books that she doesn't have time to organize her library. With me doing it, she doesn't have to worry about having disorganized book shelves. Finally, the last big thing that I do at Elda is help the kids with special needs. I go in and do puzzles with them, or play with them. One boy, in particular, named Tommy is completely dependant on someone with a severe case of autism. I help him walk with walker or help him to sit up and learn his colors and alphabet.
