The theme of “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst is that you must control your pride, because it may lead to the unexpected. This theme is supported by symbols and foreshadowing that helps form it. As the narrator tells the story, we see him throw in some foreshadowing that helps arise a theme. On page 3 the narrator states “I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death.” This is the narrator telling the story in the future and foreshadowing what is going to happen later on.
Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi, which had historically excluded most blacks from voting. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population. The projects leadership and funding came from the SNCC and COFO, along with hundreds of white college students in the north. In 1963, the SNCC organized a mock vote for blacks, which gave them a chance to prove they were capable of understanding politics. The civil rights activists from both organizations and the white volunteers from the north faced many challenges during the campaign.

Homeroom Reflection Junior year I have grown as a student this semester by watching the mala movie. This has helped me grow as a student because it showed me how just one voice can change so much in a community. From this experience I learned how Mala was an ordinary girl but who ones spoke up for what she believed was right for her community and the people all around her. After she started to change her community on a positive way for example, have more schools so students can have an education and making sure girls were able to attend school more often. Therefore, when she spoke up for what she thought was right and changed people 's life there was some who didn 't appreciate what she was doing so decided to shot her and ended up shooting her on her forehead.

The first symbol that enriches the understanding of the story

Tom is another character that comes to mind when thinking of pride. He is white prideful when it comes to race (pg.). Tom creates a sense of pride because he believes he is above everyone that isn't him. The new title of the book suits the theme very well. “The great Gatsby” portrayed a great deal of pride throughout its story.
I would like to start off this essay off by saying I am very honored to be invited to join the National Honor Society. Ever since I was young I loved helping people. I did this through Girl Scouts, which I participated in five years ago. One year my Girl Scout troop went to Kennedy Hospital in December and sang Christmas carols to cheer people up. It was events like this that really shaped who I am as a person.
There is no tell-tale sign of who becomes a criminal and who doesn 't. Many things factor into the development of a criminal. The debate between nature vs. nurture in this aspect cannot be blamed on a single element, instead both environment and genetics play a role in criminality of an idividual. The population of American jails has a high rate of individuals with mental disorders. Although, not everyone who has a mental disorder ends up in jail the vast majority of Americans who are incarcerated are likely to have inherited a mental disorder at some point in their life. At some point in American history, genes were said to be the sole reason a person became criminal however, this is not the case today.
